(Even if the flying portions were great and the controls very tight) Mainly for being a "Zelda clone" and having limited flying portions. Star Fox Adventures was a very well produced game that has grabbed attention in recent years but was met with harsh criticism upon release. Take Star Fox for example, every Star Fox game has been compared to 64 and its sort of like the gold standard that nobody can ever reach. I also think it has a fair bit to do with devs scared or not able to do the franchise a service which will lead to online bashing, poor sales and scars on their reputation. This made Nintendo prioritize which games to focus on in order for the company to maximize profit. Games started costing more to produce and longer to make around the 6th generation. It doesn’t necessarily make the situation better for us that want some new games in those franchises, but it does give us some insight on how things work when it comes to game development.

Even Sakurai had to form his own dev team to bring us Kid Icarus Uprising for the 3DS which was of course, Sora Ltd. Of course, that developer would have to show interest in those franchises to begin with. Nintendo would have to outsource those games to be developed by a third party or independent studio. The reason why we haven’t seen games like F-Zero, Wario Land, Wave Race, 1080, etc is because there are simply no team to develop those games.

That’s were your Retro Studios, Mercury Steam, Camelot, Next Level Games, and Hal Labs come in. Pretty much the rough draft of it(for those who don’t want to watch)is that anything not Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Splatoon, and Animal Crossing needs an external developer and team if it’s to be made. At least, most of it anyways, but it also sheds light on why Nintendo make the games they make and what they prioritize. It’s pretty much stuff a lot of us know here. Saw this video today that was posted on YouTube by Good Vibe Gaming and thought it was pretty interesting on the way how Nintendo handles game development in the past and now present.
